이 단지는 '93 국제 무역박람회(대전 EXPO) 기간 중에는 운영요원 및 관람객의 숙소로 활용하고 행사 이후에는 연구단지 내 종사자들 의 주거지로 활용하기 위해 조성되었다. 이를 위한 조경설계 과정에서 기존 주거단지 조경에 대한 문제점 도출을 바탕으로 새로운 시도가 이루어졌다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. 즉, 각 주거동이 획일적으로 남향, 일자형으로 배치됨으로 인해‘획일적인 단지경관’이라는 한계를 노출해 왔으며, 이 결과 작게 분할되어‘쓸모 없는 자투리 녹지공간’이 나열되는 등의 문제점이 야기되고 있었다. 이를 개선하기 위해 단지계획 단계에서부터‘조경설계자’의 적극적인 참여로 주거동 배치와 동선계획을 개선하도록 하였다. 이 결과 매력적이고 개성있는 단지경관을 창출하고 주민들이 실제적으로 ‘활용가능한 녹지’를 마련하기 위한 구체적인 방안들이 실현되었다.

This complex was built to be used as lodging buildings for staff and visitors during 1993 International Trade Exhibition (Daejeon EXPO) and a residence building for employees of the research complex after the event. It is significant in that a new attempt was made when residential complex landscaping issues arose during landscape architectural planning process. As residential buildings were uniformly aligned southward giving it a very monotonous view, and this created problems of useless pieces of green space that were divided into small parts. To make improvements, with an active participation of the landscape architect from the beginning phase of the planning, the alignment and flow planning were changed. As a result, specific measures were taken to create an attractive and distinctive view of the complex and make practical and usable green areas for the residents.
